A virtually guaranteed solution

The best way to cut the costs of your computer hardware is not to haggle over the price of new equipment but to dispense with as much of it as you can.

Virtualisation allows a single computer server to act as the hardware for a number of software or virtual servers.  In fact the process is so efficient that a 10:1 compression ratio is quite common.

Many institutions will have tried the technology to some degree but  far fewer have a virtualisation strategy in place and most fail to make the best possible use of the technology.

Why should you bother?  Well, there is no shortage of evidence that the savings are numerous and significant.

Direct hardware costs are typically reduced by over 60%.  It also reduces the amount of floor space required and the amount of power consumed.

The University of Plymouth, for example,

quote a saving of around £60,000pa in electricity costs.

Virtualised systems also require less management and radically decrease the costs of business continuity.

Microsoft estimates that even a small college can save £38,000 in the first year and over £14,000pa thereafter but larger institutions are saving 20 times that and more.

Virtualisation is a powerful tool but there are several different suppliers of the tachnology.  Selecting the best for for your needs is key and we can help.

To assist you in geting to grips with  virtualisation we've made available a white paper on the subject, a free 450 page eBook (for the technophiles) and we are happy to offer you some free consultancy and expert advice on how you can benefit from virtualisation.
